In her track This Pain, Charlotte OC gives all of us a chance to appreciate the variation in her vocals and her excellent use of vocal texturing. Her verses are sung at a lower octave than that of the chorus, and this allows her to create an even greater distinction between the dynamics of these two moments. This way, the chorus of the song, i.e., the hook, in this case, has an even greater impact on the listener. What’s particularly interesting is how she introduces this impending moment through vocal texturing – which, of course, is in the form of a vocal harmony at a higher octave. The beautiful texturing continues throughout the song, emphasizing her words, “this pain,” and giving more weight to the existing emotion in her voice.
