Matilda Perfectly Blends Arrangement and Vocals in Her Track, Midnight
Matilda Bond’s track, Midnight, sounds almost like an amalgamation of RnB, Soul, and Funk. While the entire song has the vibe of an RnB song, the combination of the drums and the bass sounds something out a funk song. The drums have 16th-note hats, a well-muffled snare tone, and varying backbeats that sometimes land on the upbeat, with a very purposeful drag in some cases. This arrangement perfectly complements Matilda’s vocal dynamics. That is to say that the drums incorporate cross-sticking when she whispers, and a crisp snare backbeat when she lets her voice soar. This synchronicity between the dynamics of the arrangement and the vocals make this track a treat to the ears.
