While the vocals in LIZ LOKRE’s track, One, was superb overall, there was something really cool that caught our attention. We’re talking about LIZ’s use of a technique that’s quite similar to a call and response in her second chorus. Each line is delivered in a separate vocal track. So after she finishes one phrase, she doesn’t take a breath and sing the next. Instead, she continues her vocal melody with ad-lib run at the end. However, to keep things in a 4/4 time signature, she starts her next phrase on the one, using another vocal track. This gives the song’s chorus a sense of continuity and flow, which helps listeners to stay hooked to that particular moment in the song.
